So last week, I was watching CNN. They were doing a story on endangered species & illegal importing of animals in China, Thailand & America..The percentage rate of forced animal extinction-compared to natural exstinction/eveolution was breathtaking...The caged animals they showed mistreated, killed for furs, used for decor, etc..made me tear up..Turtles, birds, tigers, ferretts, bears, reptiles...The animals are malnourished-set in extremely hot settings, not much food and water...
To put it into perspective: 90% of animals smuggled into America die before they reach their destination.. Defenseless animals..with no choice..no chance to survive.what is this world becoming???

Sad isn't it? For some reason, it brings to mind this elephant at my parents' local zoo. We're visiting them in Alaska for the holidays. Anyway, there is this elephant...Maggie. She has lived at the Alaskan zoo for 24 years. I've seen her many times. She seems perfectly happy. Well, as happy as ANY elephant in captivity can be. And, yes, Alaska is cold, but she has a temperature-regulated habitat. Lately, people have made such a stink about her being up here, that the zoo personnel finally gave in, and moved her to another elephant sanctuary in California...yesterday. I just keep worrying that all of the stress from getting on a plane, and moving her thousands of miles away will be too much for her, and that she'll die soon. It's just a sad situation all around.
Very interesting report.. thanks for sharing. I agree that we all need to be more aware of the effect on things we do in this world.
god that is so depressing. have you seen the stuff on recently about the dolphin killings in china...seriously i bawled my eyes out.
